Welcome, Stein Family!
An Adoption Celebration!
Last year, Susan’s Kids introduced readers to 15-year-old Jereney — a thoughtful teen who voiced a deeply honest wish: to find “a family who would actually love me forever.” For a long time, that wish felt distant. Then last month everything changed. The Stein family, having watched her video, recognized in Jereney the child they’d been waiting for — and formally adopted her, giving her the forever home she hoped for.
The whole family joined us at Exploration Place for National Adoption Day on November 22 to celebrate the incredible making of their forever family!
Jereney’s story is especially meaningful because teen adoptions in Kansas are still uncommon. At present, there are roughly 500 children in foster care in Kansas waiting to be adopted, and many of these children are age 12 or older. That makes every successful adoption — like Jereney’s — a rare and powerful example of what love, commitment, and a willing family can do.
